The Lunenburg Common will go back in time to the 1860s for a few hours while the VT Civil War Hemlocks settle into camp, portraying soldiers from the Vermont 3rd Regiment and First Vermont Light Artillery. “A Living History Experience”, this event (rain or shine) provides an action-packed day for all ages and an engaging peek into Lunenburg residents’ experiences both on the home front and on the battlefield. Soldiers’ lives are seen in their cannon firing, infantry and artillery training drills, playing of drum calls, fife practice of a familiar tune, 21-gun salute and mid-day meal at the soldiers’ table (with a few lucky visitors). Displays, diaries, a tour of the Corner Cemetery with a guide, traditional crafters and artisans’ demonstrations (including caning and blacksmithing) highlight life on the home front. And much more… This event is hosted by The Town of Lunenburg Historical Society, with Passumpsic Bank sponsorship. A variety of meal offerings and other products will be available throughout the day, as well as portable restrooms for your convenience.
